Don't know if it helps anyone here, but the latest developer release is 2.0.170.0, I currently have it installed on Windows XP and it runs fine. It was originally the Chrome browser but receives updates from the Chromium server, so it's now a hybrid ;-)
See if you can update to the latest development release. As I've said previously, I'm a complete newbie on Linux, but have just installed Ubuntu 8.10 onto a Virtual Machine to get used to it.
