Hi Barry,

First of all welcome to the list.  Good to see you're getting on well 
with Ubuntu.  There's a load of us on the list who are always happy to 
lend a hand if someone gets stuck.  With regards to a local LUG, I never 
was very good with geography so it might not be of much use but when I 
was living in Derby a couple of years back there was a Derby LUG (albeit 
I can't seem to find them now).  I also found a South Derby LUG (not 
sure if it's the same one) which you can find the mailing list for here:

Hopefully this will give you something to go on.
