I know where you're coming from Ged, but you have to remember some
people don't want to be messing about dragging their PC's everywhere
and and trying to arrange meetings, most people want a machine
governed by the "it just works" factor.

As for the solution, backing up the home directory to an external and
re-installing with the very latest ubuntu should work. If the graphics
drivers again fail to load, http://buranen.info/?p=339 looks like a
good solution :)
