If you get a standalone (eg. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Veho-VFS-006QV-generation-stand-alone-scanner/dp/B001O3HZKA/ref=sr_1_5/280-7036929-4332443?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1247556074&sr=1-5) then you don't have to worry about Linux compatability.
