Well it's worth a try, chances are if the machine was made after 1997 then it should support Cardbus (PCMCIA 5.0) which is a 32-Bit connection (rather than earlier revisions of PCMCIA which is 16-Bit). According to wikipedia, it'll support up to 133MB/sec so chances are you should get a pretty reasonable speed (certainly more than USB 1.1).
