If they have their Windows server installed then you've presumably got
the option of testing the ASP code on a Windows (IIS?) server either
on a Windows box or on a Virtual Machine, without actually having to
splash out on a VPS?

I would echo the sentiments of others regarding Mono...
notwithstanding that it is ASP.NET rather than ASP (ah yes, they are
more "different" than the names would suggest!) the environment is
going to be different, even if you forget the fact that Mono is a
compatability layer not the "real thing", and it could probably become
a seriously "false economy" when it comes to debugging.
