It might be worth directing the user to askubuntu.com or ubuntuforums.org to see if there's any help to be got there.
Also, when you're triaging a bug report, when you assign the upstream project to the report, it's best to follow the link provided to the upstream tracker and report the bug there as well. Once that's done, you can copy the URL of the upstream report into the specified field in Launchpad so that changes made upstream are reflected downstream.
