Confuse things?
It's a non-essential task that people with capable hardware can use. If
you can't do a middle-click, or there's some other reason that you wont,
then you just don't get whatever additional functionality that middle
click enables.
I'd have thought that it's no more confusing than the idea that you may
only print if you have a printer.
