Have you installed updates in the last couple of days? Something similar
happened to my desktop running Natty yesterday. My wireless keyboard and
mouse packed up just after I installed updates and I had to get a backup
pair up quickly as I had work to do. I haven't got a way of proving it at
the moment but I think something wasn't right with the recent dbus updates.
