My TV isn't a smart TV, but it is already running Linux - I noticed the GPL
license on one of the help screens when I got it! I assume with the built in TV
guides, etc. it needs a little more guts to the OS used, and given that it can
use iPlayer direct from the TV using Freesat and an ethernet connection a cut
down Linux made things easier.
