Is it, or is it a reflection of how much more popular he is now?

Just playing devil's advocate!

Why aren't the other platforms rising as fast as G+ then?

He's gained ~30K twitter followers in the same period as gaining over 200K on Google+ (the period from Oct 15th to now).

It's not just about numbers. G+ doesn't have the 140 character limit that Twitter has, it's also a richer user experience. This can lead to much more interesting and engaging conversations. Twitter followers have a tendency not to engage with people but just 're-tweet' them when they say something funny/interesting.
