What happens if you boot from a live CD/USB? The MAC address of your machine will have changed, and you can see what it is by opening a terminal and typing 'ifconfig eth0'. Your MAC address is the HWaddr field on the first line. Udev rules are in /etc/udev/rules.d. On my desktop there's a ruleset called 70-persistent-net.rules which does have your MAC address in it although I would have thought that would have been updated by the OS if it detected a change.
