A short while ago I was in the market for a webcam. My webcam needs are modest so I do not need high end models. High, low or mid-range cameras a-plenty in store but only one had proudly put on the box "compatible with Windows 7, Works with Mac & Linux" Elsewhere on the box it even listed as one of its minimum requirements, "Linux Kernel 2.6".
Sale decided at that point, decided on moral grounds. Creative Labs (Irl) Ltd. had made a sale, not based on being the best webcam in the shop but on being the only webcam in the shop stating Linux compatibility. It doesn't boast Linux on the site but a well deserved plug anyway: http://www.creative.com/mylivecam/products/product.aspx?catID=1&pid=20164 For it's worth, the camera is listed on various Ubuntu hardware / webcam lists [e.g. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SkypeWebCams/] - it is not at the top of the lists but the ones at the top did *not* want to acknowledge the existence of Linux. -- Cheers, Bill B.
