Dyndns bought out editdns. People with paid "lifetime" memberships were promised the equivalent service but got something quite different instead and had to pay a migration fee. A lot of lies were told at the time regarding the situation.

They also bought "everydns" which is the point I switched to dns.he.net (which is excellent and I recommend it). I was an everydns donator. Again, the account offered to previous users was fairly limited to make people upgrade to their "premium" service.

They also removed threads on the editdns forum during the migration period that were in any way critical of the move, or when people wrote about problems people were having. Due to the volume of complaints being posted they eventually deleted the forum (saying that people should now use their community forum, but it was very conveniently timed)

Dyndns are also imho overly expensive (compared to other services with lots of "limits" to force you onto more expensive packages), and talk about DNS like it something magical that only they can do (Their marketing is very annoying).
