I don't understand, you said that they were intermittent.  I assumed
from that that they work for a while and then stop for a while and so
on.  Please clarify exactly what the symptom is.

That is normal, I was looking for almost continuous activity, which
would have indicated swapping.  It seems that swapping is not the
issue.

I meant that you open the monitor when all is operating normally and
then when the problem appears look at what is shown.
