Do you mean that the machine is absolutely frozen? No mouse, Ctrl+Alt+F1 does nothing, etc? Have a look in /var/log/syslog to see if there are any messages before the freeze. If nothing there then it could well be a hardware issue, overheating possibly, or PSU for example. Try booting into memtest and leave it running for a few hours and see if it freezes then or shows errors.
