Not wishing to upset anybody, Sir.
Problem only happened with a Region 1 disk, Region 2 is good.
If due to drive region-locking after several changes, does not explain the drive "chatter" MS W7 will play Region one so if I use Ubuntu for Region 2 and Microsoft for Region 1, no problem.
Drive chatter, I don't know, that remains a mystery.

It is good practice to say what the cause of the problem was, so that
we can all learn from your experience. It may happen to me next week.

I tried deleting in terminal but did not.
A DVD causes drive-chatter, sometimes a box of error messages, but no
playback possible, just shows the disc title.
Was good, looks like VLC corruption has developed.
I'm hoping a complete removal is possible in terminal, is anybody able to
tell me what to do, please ?
Thanks, Michael
