Honestly the Nvidia modules have been junk for a long time. Some have 100% working systems other have lots of strange issue. I have reported a few bugs in that driver package personally. The main issue is still yet to be fixed a full 2 released driver versions later. Honestly though these are strictly Nvidia bugs and nothing really to do with the Ubuntu implementation of them. Sadly their buggy drivers give the OS a bad name when you have issues straight from the get-go. Pass your bugs into launchpad and hope others are having the same issue, if not ... good luck, it's never getting fixed.
