I thought I would let you in on something that could be kind of special happening at Media Bridges ... I shall keep you posted.
From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Subject: FW: Synopsis of P&G's Purpose for Nov. 8th Meeting Date: Mon, 1 Nov 2010 16:30:15 -0400 Mr. Corbet, I have discussed your presence with Emily from P&G and she has sent me the following information. I wanted to share this information with you because I thought it may help you better understand why a researcher from Proctor and Gamble would be at Media Bridges in the first place. I have spoken with my supervisor and it is apparent that we at Media Bridges could be in a position to provide our assets to the Open Source community in as much as it would be possible to enrich the Open Source community by having real time programming geared towards a specific demographic ... i.e. Open Source Developers. I know that Emily finds the prospect of entering into the FOSS community as a distinct possibility as the retail organization that she has worked with from my understanding has fallen drastically short of solving their problem statement. From what I understand the below information is the problem statement that her division is interested in solving. I am envisioning a situation where on a regular basis we have lead developers on this project here at Media Bridges turning Media Bridges for a time into a live broadcast version of an IRC Chatroom. It would make sense to me to present a real world problem to the Open Source community here in Cincinnati and begin to delve into the details of how to solve the problem either live on television or with pre recorded information that would enable for a more expedient solution to the problem that has been presented to me. I have never seen programming on Time Warner cable that was geared specifically to a highly developed computer literate culture. I believe that thousands of people would be interested to hear what high level programming conversation sounds like when solving a high level problem. This is a place where such conversations can take place and would in my opinion shed light on a topic that people are interested in but lacking the resources / keywords / memes with which to enter into the community. If you do not know the phrase "Open Source" how then can you search for it to learn of its existence in an engine. I believe that a number of solutions could be solved through the utilization of Media Bridges as a conduit to all things Open Source. If we are fully transitioning over to an Open Source Solution then I imagine we could at the very least attempt to with our resources raise the level of awareness of the Open Source world through community created media whose purpose could be to bring more into the folds of the Open Source environment. What would you do at the convergence point of broadcast television and the open source community? We can provide that opportunity here at Media Bridges? Imagine professional Open Source programmers developing media addressing their problems concerns and aspirations as programmers for the entirety of Cincinnati to have insight into. I have seen Ubuntu media content on YouTube ... I would like to see it on Media Bridges programming channels. We have four of them. You would be able to call Emily at the number below and if you so chose discuss with her in person her problem and see if there is a chemistry between yourself and herself that could be geared towards solving her problem. That I imagine is up to you, however, it could be helpful for the entire function if there was some preliminary discussion so that we could bypass the niceties and direct our time to the presentation I will be providing and the discussion that I will be facilitating in the aftermath. I look forward to hearing from you and hope that this email can be helpful to you in shaping your understanding of what Media Bridges is interested in and why Proctor and Gamble would be interested in attending a function at our facilities. from boys to men, Nicholas Lawson _____ To: [email protected] Date: Mon, 1 Nov 2010 13:33:09 -0400 Subject: Synopsis of P&G's Purpose for Nov. 8th Meeting Nicholas- I am excited to see your presentation on Monday and would like to thank you (and everyone involved) for being able to move the meeting up on such short notice. As you requested, I have written a short paragraph outlining the problem that we have at P&G and what we perceive to be help. Please let me know if you are looking for more/less information. Thanks . Currently, P&G uses human intervention to transfer formulation data from a Macro-enabled Excel sheet to our corporate documentation system. This causes delays in the launch of our initiatives due to the time required for a person to input all the necessary information. This can also cause issues with data being transferred correctly due to human error. We are looking for an electronic solution that would be able to map the information from the Excel sheet to our corporate system quickly and accurately. Emily Fairall Procter & Gamble - Sr. Functional Specialist
