Hiya, everyone! I'm a long-time part-time Linux user, now 100% MS/Apple-free, and enjoying the heck out of Ubuntu. I'm also a programmer (ColdFusion, Java, PHP, bash, some Python, C/C++, etc.), and I'd like to start contributing back to the Ubuntu community. However, I have a particular horror of making an ass of myself in public (hopefully I'm not doing so now; seems like this list could use a few fresh topics!); as a result, it's taken months for me to even send this request for hand-holding.
What I'm hoping to do is to dive into some of the bite-size<http://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2011/03/unity-bitesize-bug-status-for-22-march/>or paper cuts <https://launchpad.net/hundredpapercuts/natty> bugs -- but every time I have a little spare time, I end up spending it all getting up to speed, and never quite getting to doing any actual coding (or even much analysis). It seems to me that there are probably a lot of us in this position, needing first-time hand-holding that feels just too much to burden "real" maintainers with -- and of course, I'd also be happy to pass along what I learn. So is anyone game for some real spoon feeding, barely above the "now press the 'a' key, and hit Enter" level? :*) Suggestions on better places to look for this are welcome as well -- thanks, and apologies, as needed!
