It looks like pavucontrol shows everything to be set up as I'd expect. Nothing is muted Levels for mono sounds and stereo output are at 100%. Output devices are normally set to Analog Speakers but switch to Analog Headphones when the phones are plugged in. When it's in that halfway-state, it's still at Analog Speakers. Configuration is set to Analog Stereo Duplex, though changing it to Analaog Stereo Output doesn't change anything.
