I agree with your sentiment that Ubuntu Oregon seems dead (for a good while me, Phil and jvlb we're one of the few people active), and a still current world event that started around 2 years ago had me stop hosting Ubuntu Hours here in Salem.
I'm hoping I can restart those here in the near future, I'm still weighing how safe that is.
