This is actually a problem with the G+ webapp only. From the logs, we see that it's invoked with this URL pattern:
--webappUrlPatterns=https://plus.google.*/*,https://accounts.google.*/* At a certain point, the SAML request happens: SAML request detected. Adding host pattern: https?://login\.ubuntu\.com/ When the request returns, we are sent to Opening: https://www.google.com/accounts/ContinueSignIn?sarp=1&continue=https%3A%2F%2Fplus.google.com%2Fapp%2Fbasic%2Fstream%3Fgpsrc%3Dgpmobile%253Aandroid&plt =AKgnsbvS_XiuRAyJOtUG9Gz-R_7wS2sQxIQv-m -0RHFzYpduE9DX5fHljoEOQ7wNlVxbNwv8Ditz-J8vKS1h2wB58B7M-F and this gets opened in the external browser, because the domain www.google.com doesn't match the URL patterns.
