In the past 3 updates to Firefox, the search engine install is broken

Steps to reproduce.

1. Left click on magnifying glass on search engine text box.
2. Select "Change Search Settings"
3. In Firefox Preferences → Search click on "Add more search engines…"
4. In new tab (Search :: Add-ons for Firefox), select any search engine.
5. Click on "+ Add to Firefox" button

Message box pops up containing

"Sorry, you need a Mozilla-based browser (such as Firefox) to install a
search plugin."

BTW. When this problem first appeared all the search engines that had
been installed were removed.

The problem persisted even after xul-ext-ubufox was removed, probably
because the installer wizard which was removed is not replaced ergo
uninstalling this to "… use a pristine Firefox install." doesn't work
either.

Version 3.0-0ubuntu0.14.04.1:

  * New upstream release
    - Delete the plugin installer wizard implementation and associated code.
Upstream have disabled PFS and removed their plugin installer wizard now
    - Drop the search engine defaults - these have moved to Firefox
      (LP: #1398174)

** Affects: unity-firefox-extension (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
