Just wanted to report my status: 10.10, ATI 3470, fglrx enabled, catalyst version OpenGL version string: 3.3.10428 Compatibility Profile Context. /usr/lib/qt4/examples/opengl/textures/textures works fine. All the best for getting this solved.
