It looks like there are probably several other bugs of this type in the
hook, e.g.:
upgraded = command_output_quiet(
['head', '-n', '1', '/var/log/dist-upgrade/apt.log'])
if len(upgraded) > 0:
len(None) will generate a TypeError.
