Investigating further, I found that disabling "Monitors/Same image on all 
screens", reveals that the Veriton regards itself as a "Laptop (1024x768)" with 
an extra "Philips (1280x1024)" screen. However, selecting the Philips gives a 
black monitor with a mouse only.
Obviously, it seems there is some severe internal confusion here. The real 
Philips LCD screen is physically connected to the only existing VGA port.
