@Aurélien Gâteau: I just tried logging with Ubuntu 2D (no compiz I assume?) and using ubuntu-desktop ppa and now thg works fine. (Thanks!) I had previously tried using Ubuntu 2D, (without LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR or the ubuntu-desktop ppa), and it showed the broken behavior.
