I can also confirm this behaviour on the ASUS EB1501P (ION2, atom D525) Plymouth fails at boot with "plymouthd: ./plugin.c:540: map_to_device: Assertion `head->size > 0' failed."
I can start X by dropping to a VT and running sudo startx If I can provide anything that will help, please let me know.
