Bryce, thanks for looking at this. based on what you said, Installed lubuntu pangolin A1 from "alternate" CD on another partition. Worked fine. Original CD Live lubuntu pangolin A1 checked out O.K. on "check disk for defects". Installed original CD live lubuntu pangolin A1 on another partition, same size.
Working fine now. The bug must have been a fluke. (this is alpha time...) Can't reproduce the bug since it's working O.K. now.
