When this happens, can you please give us the output of

  gsettings list-recursively org.gnome.settings-
daemon.peripherals.touchpad

? In particular, I'm interested in whether touchpad-enabled flips to
false, which would be a gnome-settings-daemon misbehaviour.

Neither gnome-settings-daemon nor x-x-input-synaptics changed in
precise, though, and this seems to be a new problem in precise. So we
need to find out what's different compared to oneiric.
