Well I've got some news. I've managed to get 11.10 installed on my Medion notebook but there are a couple of problems.
I managed to get the OS installed by using the 'nomodeset' install time parameter. I also modified the grub load parameter and included the 'nomodeset' parameter. The first is loading. Before I can get a working system, I have to run the recovery option and then resume the load and it works. Unfortunately I have to do this every time I wish to load 11.10. A nuisance but it works. The second is shutting down but I have found a workaround. I close all windows and then start up a terminal window and type su. I then enter my root password. I then type the following at the command prompt:- sync sync sync ( a few times to be sure that all buffers are flushed) shutdown now -P This code goes through reporting a few actions (some of which fail) and then finally after a few seconds, the notebook closes down and turns the power off. As far as I am aware the OS is doing everything correctly and I haven't been able to find any problems apart from the two problems I have detailed above. I'm sure there would be logs somewhere that would advise what is going on but I do not know what they're called nor where they are located. If anybody can advise I would be most appreciative.
