I have a Lenovo Thinkpad R500 with an intel onboard graphic system and
an additional discrete nvidia video card. I use the bumblebee system to
run graphic-intensive applications on the nvidia-card. (This doesn't
work with the wine games I tested [portal, portal 2]). Portal 2 crashes
in regular intervalls after hanging for some seconds. I am greeted with
this message in dmesg:
[ 707.693945] [drm:i915_hangcheck_elapsed] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed...
GPU hung
[ 707.693969] [drm] capturing error event; look for more information in
/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state
[ 707.720940] [drm:i915_wait_request] *ERROR* i915_wait_request returns -11
(awaiting 449234 at 449229, next 449235)
After the game crashes, no application that uses OpenGL works. glxgears
and all other glx* testing aplication do a segfault. Additionally,
colors on some applications like gnome-terminal randomly change
(whenever there is any kind of change on the screen). After a restart of
X, OpenGL works again, although very slowly. (glxspheres gives 13 FPS
with the Intel card instead of 60 FPS before). All this only affects
the intel card, the nvidia card (probably because it isn't used) remains
unaffected and is capable of rendering any graphics. (glxspheres: 150
FPS)
I don't know where the bug is, the only PPA I use that may affect this
is ppa:bumblebee/stable. I see forward to a fix.
