I have this problem too.

I have tried selecting ubuntu2d to no avail either, it freezes.

I have tried to not log in to X with lightdm, but instead just do a
alt+f1 and go straight to console and I get a total freeze even.

Tried to connect from the outsite but the ip of the machine in question
was not responding. So it is a total freeze.

After installing, some reboots, installing propietary nvidia driver
295.40, which worked fine for me and working with the desktop for a
while I got my first freeze, since then, I have tried uninstalling the
nvidia propietary driver but I still get freezes, quicker freezes even.

My freezes are fast but I managed to collect some preliminary data.

Dmesg.txt includes dmesg complete output + lspci + lsusb output.

If there is any other specific info/log I could provide just tell me
