I have two Dell Inspiron 530 machines which I loaded Ubuntu 12.04 onto on August 1st. It's taken a month + now to get down to the final problems. I've got the total system lockup as mentioned in this link, but I've isolated it to Firefox on both machines. Occasionally the mouse is moveable in a spastic erratic way, but it's impossible to get a terminal up to run top or any other diagnostic.
1. Firefox 15.0 takes 30 seconds to load on the initial load. Shut it down and try a reload and the system locks up. 2. If Firefox is the default browser, once loaded it will run all day without problems until you click on a link within another application like a link in an email in Thunderbird. Firefox, being the default browser, is called and locks the system. Or click on an HTML file within Nautilus and tell Nautilus to open it with Firefox. Lock the system. In these cases, if Chromium is the default browser, the system operates properly. I'm not 100% sure there is no graphics card involvement, but Firefox sure seems to be part of the problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
