This fix seems to work. Since adapting the Apparmor profile to the ATI grafics card as described above I had no single crash of Firefox nor Gnome neither on FF startup nor on opening links from Thunderbird. Everything is working as its supposed to be. All messages in the syslogs are clean. Seems like this case at least on my machine is solved.
