I too have experienced this hard freeze, which requires me to power off the machine. It happens maybe once a day, if that. It usually happens after I've been doing a variety of different things for a few hours. From what I can remember, it happens while the following programs are open: Chrome (a few tabs open; has NOT happened during video playback) Empathy (a couple chat boxes open; logged into gTalk) Rhythmbox (playing music)
I am unsure what specific action causes the hard freezes; it could be a variety of things as far as I can tell. Here are my system specs: Ubuntu 12.04 (precise) 64-bit Kernel Linux 3.2.0-35-generic GNOME 3.4.2 Intel® Core™ i7-3740QM CPU @ 2.70GHz × 8 Ivy Bridge 16GB RAM Intel SSD -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
