It turns out the patch was already added to xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 
1:1.0.6-0ubuntu2 in Ubuntu 13.04 "Raring Ringtail" ahead of it being committed 
to the mainline upstream driver - see

And just to confirm it's the same patch you can read
