This is a "useful bug". It could be an idee to improve unity :
Display every running widows in scale mode when you are using the workspace
selector.
Reproduce this bug is easy :
Open several applications on differents workspaces. Choose an application where
you can handle somthing with your mouse with the left click (like gedit,
libreoffice, nautilus...etc). Press continuously the left bottom of your mouse
on this application (select an item) and press super+s (to expose all
worspace). Now press super+w to expose all windows on scale mode.
You notice that with the keybord, tou can still write on gedit or libreoffice,
you can select items... To switch to the other worspace use the unity shortcuts
crtl+alt+arrow.
