I can confirm this.

We have applied the latest updates to few laptops and those experiencing 
crashes. Sometimes the whole computer freezes (we have to hard reset the 
system) while sometimes the window  manager crashes but the system is still 
responsive. There is no information in the syslog when system freezes but when 
the window manager dies you get the following outout in the syslog(attached as 
sys.log). The updates updated the intel video driver to the following version
2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4.3
Other laptops which has no updates applied are running the following version
 2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4.2
I have also tried to backport the intel driver to  2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4 version ( 
i couldn't find 2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4.2) in theory this should work but still 
having same problems. 

I have tried briefly unity2D which looked promising.
