The i386 version turns out to be 173.14.16 When manually installing via synaptic & showing the details, the following message shows up:
Error! could not locate module nvidia.ko for module nvidia in the DKMS tree You must run a dkms build for kernel 2.6.31.9-generic (i686) first.
