Daniel,

Unfortunately it looks like the correction has had a very short
lifespan. I logged in normally this morning and after perhaps 10
minutes of normal functionality, the screen went blank and all disk
activity stopped.

I have since then tried numerous methods to get the system back up but
perhaps 8 out of ten attempts stop somewhere along the line, while a
couple seem to start normally, but then abruptly go to a blank screen
colored in various hues of the color scheme of my selected theme.

Even the system boot screens sometimes come up wildly distorted. Only a
cold boot enabled by pulling the power plug has a chance of working
albeit briefly.

So, I've been able to get into various recovery screens and have managed
to save off most of my project data to an archive hard disk and will now
set about installing a new system. Normally this would be pretty
straight forward, but seemingly not this time around. There's always
something new to learn, so it looks like class is now in session.

Phil
