Here's what worked for me: * install the proprietary driver * sudo amdcccle * configure monitors and desktops through amd's tool * reboot Of course, if you don't want to run the proprietary driver, this won't work for you. Alberto did mention that the card is supposed to be supported in the free driver, but it's clearly got problems. -- [Karmic] Xorg crash after login.
