I am currently in the same situation. I ran an update yesterday (Sept. 15th), and then switched to windows to do a few things. This morning when I woke up, I tried to reboot back into linux to find that the minute I got to the login screen, my mouse and keyboard were frozen. I am going to connect my laptop directly to my router and boot it to console with net support. Maybe there's an update for this. Also, I checked my kern and xorg logs, nothing out of the ordinary. I will try checking .xsession-errors next boot.
