I've created a clean vm with the trusty daily image using vmware workstation. I've installed emacs24.3+1-2ubuntu1 and tried running it with emacs -q. It opens a separate X window which doesn't crash.
In one of my attempts I managed to make it crash, but I can't reproduce it in any reliable way.
