By the way, if you find that it is possible to read the EDID with an
older version of ubuntu, that may be helpful. I don't know if looking at
Monitor Asset Manager (http://www.entechtaiwan.com/util/moninfo.shtm)
will help since we cannot look at the source code. This probably
requires someone with deep knowledge of how i2c is implemented.
