Same problem with certified [PowerEdge
R320](http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/hardware/201207-11432/) and
Ubuntu 14.04.

Personally, I am not necessarily interested in getting 3D acceleration
supported for such an old card (and for a server!). *However*, I'd like
basic graphic functionality to work decently; right now I got that by
installing xubuntu-desktop, but it'd be generally cool if compiz/gnome
would disable cool effects automatically, based on available hardware.
