It seems that you are using the xorg-edgers PPA. Do you see this issue with normal Karmic?
We can leave this bug report for the crash with the radeonhd driver, but can you please open a new bug report for the lag with the open-source ati driver? Yes, I mean the open-source xserver-xorg-video-ati (with -radeon) driver.
