checkbox's video test uses the xrandr command to do its testing. This command utilizes the XRANDR 1.2 feature to do its stuff.
The binary -nvidia driver does not support XRANDR 1.2. It isn't even on their priority list - see http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=article&item=nvidia_qa_linux&num=5 the question on the bottom of page 5. Because of this, checkbox should be configured to not do any testing if the nvidia kernel module is present on the system. In fact, it would be smart to have the test check for if XRANDR is present on :0.0 before running, since there are likely other video drivers out there which lack XRANDR 1.2, but excluding nvidia will at least prevent the vast bulk of mistaken bug reports. ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => checkbox (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: checkbox (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Critical -- checkbox should not run on nvidia (was: appearing error message extension "RANDR" missing on display ":0.0".) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/465868 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : [email protected] Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
