Can confirm this bug on girlfriend's father's computer upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 - will attach Xorg logs in one moment. Having looked through system logs I can see that various things are still working - NetworkManager for example, disconnected from the wireless network and then attempts to reconnect, there are still reports from PulseAudio, Avahi et al.
